Description
Blackberry variety APF 45, also known as Prime Ark 45, is the result of selection by American scientists from the University of Arkansas, where it was developed in 2009 by crossing Prime Jim and APF-1 varieties. This variety is remontant and late-ripening, allowing for two harvests per year: the first at the end of June on last year’s canes, and the second at the beginning of September until frost. Berries have a shiny black color, conical or oval shape, and average weight of 6 to 9 grams. The flesh is sweet and aromatic, making this variety popular both for commercial cultivation and private gardens.
APF 45 is distinguished by high yield — about 10 kilograms of berries can be harvested from one bush. The plant has good resistance to heat and drought, but it is sensitive to high temperatures during flowering, which may affect fruit quality. To improve pollination and prevent color loss, it is recommended to treat leaves with boron chelate one week before mass flowering. Canes of this variety have slightly thorny bases, but no thorns in the fruiting zone, which facilitates harvest.
The variety adapts well to various climatic conditions and shows resistance to fungal diseases, contributing to its popularity among gardeners and farmers. Due to the dense berry structure and excellent transportability, APF 45 is suitable for long-term storage and transportation, maintaining its flavor and appearance.
