Description
Blackberry "Loch Ness" – thornless semi-vining shrub, developed in 1990 in the UK and Scotland based on European blackberry, loganberry, and raspberry varieties. Bushes reach a length of over 3.5 m; with regular thinning, they maintain a compact shape and yield high productivity.
The variety's berries are distinguished by their large size (from 4 g to 23 g), rich black color, juiciness, and sweet taste with a pronounced aroma. Ripening begins at the end of July – beginning of August, and the fruit retains its characteristic flavor even during long-term transportation.
"Loch Ness" is characterized by high frost resistance (–20 °C) and drought, disease, and pest resistance. Bushes are easily grown in sunny, well-warmed areas; care involves watering, mulching, and fertilization. The variety is self-fertile, but for better fruiting, it is recommended to plant it near other blackberry varieties.
The yield of an adult bush can reach 15–20 kg per year, making it popular among both gardeners and on plantations. Thanks to its resistance to climatic conditions and ease of care, "Loch Ness" remains a sought-after choice for fresh berry production and processing.
