Predictable field performance: dense heads, excellent marketability, and high resilience to weather-related stress.
Description
Field experience with the Cendis hybrid by Vilmorin-Mikado
When it comes to late-maturing cauliflower, finding the balance between head density and weather resistance is the main challenge. French breeding by Vilmorin-Mikado has focused on predictability with the Cendis hybrid. Over the 90–100 days from transplanting, we consistently get a product that stands up to field conditions and performs well during logistics.
In the field
What really matters for growers working with this hybrid is its powerful foliage, which naturally covers the head. This saves time and resources on extra maintenance. During the growing cycle, we observed that the plant handles heat stress well, which is critical for cauliflower. The 1.0–1.5 kg head has a consistent, uniform round shape—the exact standard currently required by supermarkets and processors.
Storage and marketability
Versatility is Cendis's main strength. Its dense structure makes the crop suitable for both fresh market sales and industrial processing (freezing). After harvesting, the product maintains its market quality, showing no signs of shattering or yellowing when stored at proper temperatures. For a farmer, this means fewer losses during sorting and a reliable result that meets the demands of even the most rigorous buyers.

Maturation (seedlings)
By the length of the vegetation period, cabbage varieties are conditionally divided into three maturity groups: early maturing (100 — 120 days), mid-season maturing (120 — 150 days), and late maturing (more than 150 days). When sowing cabbage seeds in March — April, cabbage seedl... |
