The Elegance F1 carrot from the Dutch breeding company Nunhems is a prime example of the professional 'Nantes' variety type, adapted for intensive cultivation technologies. The primary engineering goal achieved by Nunhems breeders in this hybrid is the precise balance between root uniformity and long-term storability.

Morphological features and crop protection

The cylindrical root shape with a blunt tip, measuring 17–20 cm in length, serves as an industry standard for automated washing and packaging lines. An average root weight of 150–200 grams minimizes processing waste. A key technical feature is its high resistance to Alternaria leaf blight. This genetic resistance allows growers to reduce the number of fungicide applications, maintaining a healthy canopy until the moment of mechanical harvest.

Storage and planting density

With a maturity period of 130–140 days, Elegance F1 belongs to the mid-late category. To achieve the stated storage potential of 8–9 months, plant density is critical: 1.0–1.2 million plants/hectare. Exceeding this density triggers nutrient competition and reduces market weight, which negatively impacts storage quality. The deep orange coloration remains stable throughout the entire storage period, supported by high carotenoid concentration and dense cellular structure.
