Cultivation and Crop Protection

Managing the pathogenic pressure is one of the biggest challenges in carrot farming. During the 90–100 day growing season, we have consistently observed the variety's resilience against common scab. This is critical for reducing fungicide reliance. The crop demonstrates high resistance to Mycosphaerella leaf spot and brown spot, significantly simplifying plant protection management during high-stress periods.

Field Performance and Processing

The conical root shape, with a length of 15–20 cm and a weight of 150–200 g, is perfectly suited for mechanized harvesting. As a classic Shantenay type, it is highly predictable: the roots are uniform with a vibrant orange color, which is highly valued for washing and industrial processing. The pack-out rate is excellent, keeping waste during pre-sale preparation to an absolute minimum.

Logistics and Storage

For us, the true test is how the product performs after three to four months in storage. Shantenay-Comet retains its firmness and color, maintaining its quality in standard vegetable storage facilities. This versatility makes the variety a powerful tool: you can quickly sell a portion of the harvest as bunching carrots early in the season, while keeping the rest until the winter price peak.
