Working with the 'Amelie' hybrid from the French producer (Av Du Capitaine N Tchorere 80270 Airaines France) confirms why three-way hybrids remain a staple in intensive farming. It is not just a seed, but a technological tool that requires precise sowing density to reach its full production potential.

Agronomic flexibility and application

For us, as practitioners, it is critical that 'Amelie' is a versatile performer. We have used it for both grain production and silage. The flint-dent grain type ensures excellent moisture release during maturation, which is crucial during unpredictable autumns. The crop is predictable in terms of management: with proper fertilization and crop protection, the hybrid demonstrates excellent stand uniformity.

Sowing density: from theory to practice

The producer suggests a wide range of sowing density: from 60 to 80 thousand plants per hectare. Our experience shows the following:

• In areas with limited moisture, it is better to stick to the lower range of 60–65k seeds/ha to ensure each plant has enough water reserves.
• In fertile soils with adequate moisture, we confidently aim for 75–80k seeds/ha. Under these conditions, the hybrid delivers maximum biomass yield for silage production.

Handling 'Amelie' crops does not require any specific agronomic practices beyond standard corn management. The hybrid is responsive to micronutrients and handles early-stage stress well. It is a reliable choice for those who value predictable yields and consistent grain quality.
