Bc 178 — this is a three-line early-maturing corn (Zea mays L.) hybrid, intended for silage and grain production. The hybrid is included in the State Register for the Central, Volga, and Far Eastern regions of Russia. The plant is characterized by high yield and is adapted to various climatic conditions. The vegetation period is approximately 104 days, which is 5 days longer than the standard level. The ear is long and cylindrical, with toothed yellow kernels, and the average grain yield in the Far Eastern region reaches 34.9 centners per hectare, which is 43% higher than the standard. In the Central region, a high yield of dry matter is observed — up to 304 centners per hectare, with an average dry matter content of about 26.7%. The hybrid demonstrates resistance to stalk rot, enhancing its reliability in cultivation. However, it is susceptible to severe infection by dusty smut and damage from corn borer. External plant characteristics include the absence or weak anthocyanin pigmentation of the first leaf sheath and roots, as well as medium kernel density. The plant is tall with narrow or medium-width leaves, and the tassel has a long main axis and average number of lateral branches. These morphological features contribute to good plant development and yield formation. Bc 178 is suitable for use in various agrotechnical systems, ensuring stable and high yields of both grain and silage. Due to its characteristics, the hybrid is in demand in regions with different climatic conditions, as confirmed by results from state variety testing stations. Its application allows for increased efficiency in corn production and ensures quality feed or processing raw materials.
