Description
Field Performance: Our Experience with DKS3938
When selecting a corn hybrid for commercial grain production, we look for a combination of yield potential and stress tolerance. DKS3938 from Monsanto has proven itself to be a reliable choice in our fields. From an operator's perspective, this hybrid offers consistency—even germination and a predictable response to standard field management practices make it a standout choice for high-yield farming.
Disease Resistance and Field Health
Managing fungal diseases is often the biggest challenge in corn production. The DKS3938 hybrid offers strong resistance against Fusarium ear rot and common smut, which significantly simplifies our plant protection strategy. By minimizing the pressure from these diseases, we can optimize fungicide applications, thereby reducing the overall cost of production per hectare.
Seeding Rates and Management
Since DKS3938 is a simple hybrid, it adapts well to different moisture conditions if seeded at the correct density. Based on our operational experience, we adjust the population per hectare to maximize grain fill:
- Low moisture conditions: 55,000–60,000 plants/ha to reduce competition for water.
- Moderate conditions: 65,000–70,000 plants/ha for a balanced yield.
- High moisture/irrigated conditions: 70,000–75,000 plants/ha to fully leverage the hybrid's capacity.
With a maturity window of 120–140 days, this hybrid fits well into our harvesting schedule. The dent grain type is characterized by excellent dry-down properties. For us, this means lower energy costs at the dryer and better logistics during the busy harvest season. DKS3938 combines agronomic stability with harvest efficiency, making it a valuable asset for our bottom line.
