A reliable choice for producing high-quality, energy-dense silage.
Description
Stable silage for your farm
When you are ensiling corn, it’s not just about the volume of green mass; it’s about the quality in the pit. This season, we opted for the Monsanto DKS4515, and the results were highly predictable. This simple hybrid with an FAO of 90–1240 fit perfectly into our harvest schedule: the 90–100 day maturity period allows us to complete fodder harvesting before the autumn rains set in.
Agronomics and plant health
What we really appreciate in the field is the plant's resilience. In our conditions, where fusarium and common smut are recurring headaches, the DKS4515 holds up remarkably well. The stalk is sturdy and resists lodging, which makes the harvester's job significantly easier. We didn't need to spend extra money on fungicide applications, as the hybrid's genetic resistance to corn fusarium and common smut does the job effectively.
Planting density and output
Regarding seeding density, we tested two approaches. At 50–55 thousand plants per hectare, we get a heavier ear, which is vital if the goal is to increase the energy density of the silage. At 70–75 thousand plants per hectare, we prioritize the volume of green mass. In both scenarios, the investment in seeds is justified by the yield of feed units per hectare. Machinery maneuvers through the field easily, and the stalk moisture content is consistent, making logistics management a breeze.
