Description
Field Performance: Insights on Ekodar 380
When selecting a hybrid for grain production, we prioritize consistency and mechanical performance. The Ekodar 380 from PrAT «Ekoprod» has proven to be a reliable choice. As a simple, dent-type hybrid, it is specifically optimized for grain usage. With a maturity window of 120–140 days, it allows for efficient planning of harvesting schedules, which is crucial during the busy autumn period.
Planting and Density Management
Throughout our trials, we have tested planting densities between 60,000 and 75,000 plants per hectare. We found that targeting 65,000–70,000 plants/ha provides the best balance between individual cob development and overall yield potential. The stalk structure is robust, minimizing lodging risks and ensuring that our harvesting equipment can operate efficiently without significant grain loss.
Disease Resistance and Farm Economics
One of the major advantages for our operation is the genetic resistance against head smut. Developed by originators Brahin Oleksandr Mykolaiovych and Melnyk Ivan Ivanovych, this hybrid significantly reduces the pressure on our fungicide program. Less chemical intervention directly translates into lower production costs per ton. Furthermore, the hybrid exhibits excellent moisture dry-down rates at the end of the season, which helps us minimize grain drying costs at the elevator. It is a practical, low-maintenance solution for farmers focused on high-quality grain output.
