GS 500

GS 500 — late-maturing three-row hybrid maize with FAO 390, intended for grain production. The plant is characterized by high stature and broad leaves of medium width. The ear is long, thick, cylindrical, with a long stalk and a high number of rows of kernels — from 18 to 22. The kernels are dent-type, yellow-orange in color, with a 1000-kernel weight of 300–320 g. The ear stalk is colored red, which is a distinctive feature of the hybrid. GS 500 exhibits strong anthocyanin pigmentation of the stalk and weak pigmentation of other plant parts, which aids in hybrid identification.

The hybrid is characterized by high genetic potential and good yield, averaging 79.4 ц/га, which is 14.1% higher than the standard. The maximum yield of 140.4 ц/га was recorded under favorable conditions. GS 500 has good moisture shedding due to the dent-type kernel, facilitating drying. The plant shows moderate resistance to stalk rot, requiring attention during cultivation. The hybrid's drought tolerance is rated as moderate, making it suitable for regions with varying moisture levels.

The recommended planting density depends on the level of moisture: at less than 450 mm of annual rainfall — 65–68 thousand plants per hectare, at more than 450 mm — 70 thousand plants per hectare. The hybrid can form two ears under sparse planting, and under favorable conditions, the number of kernel rows per ear may reach 22. The drooping ear at maturity and high yield make GS 500 a versatile hybrid for obtaining high-quality grain and feed.
