A reliable German hybrid that forgives management errors and consistently delivers high grain yields.
Description
Predictable yields in challenging conditions
When I opted for the "Keltikus" hybrid from KWS, I was looking for reliability, and it has proven to be a solid choice. This simple hybrid with flint-dent grain is specifically bred for grain production. If you are looking for a crop capable of withstanding unstable weather, KWS offers a very well-calibrated solution from German breeding programs.
Field performance and plant health
The main advantage of "Keltikus" is its robust health. In our fields, disease management often eats into the margins, but this hybrid shows high resistance to common smut (boil smut). Furthermore, its resistance to fusarium, helminthosporium, and stalk rot is excellent, minimizing the risk of cob loss during the maturation stage and reducing the need for additional fungicide sprays.
Agronomy and seeding density
During planting, I adjust the density based on the moisture levels of the plot:
- 60-65 thousand plants/ha: ideal for lower soil fertility or drought-prone areas where the hybrid excels even at lower densities.
- 75-80 thousand plants/ha: perfect for high-moisture zones where the full yield potential can be unleashed.
The grain exhibits strong dry-down characteristics, which significantly cuts energy costs during harvesting. For a farmer who tracks every cent of production costs per ton, "Keltikus" is a practical tool rather than just another catalog entry.

Dual-purpose hybrids: for silage and grain in all growing regions. These are "stay-green" type hybrids, meaning the plants remain green for a longer period. However, this does not affect the sugar, cellulose, and hemicellulose content, nor the degree of lignification of the plant... |
