KWS LUSITANO

The KWS Lusitano hybrid is a high-yielding and adaptable hybrid of sweet corn, intended for grain production. It belongs to the mid-early maturity group with an FAO index of approximately 280, providing rapid development and stable yields under various climatic conditions. Plants reach a height of 270-300 cm, with ears positioned at 100-120 cm, and have 14-16 rows of dent-type kernels. The 1000-kernel weight varies from 300 to 360 g, indicating large kernel size and high-quality yield. KWS Lusitano exhibits high drought resistance and resistance to major corn diseases such as helminthosporium and common rust, confirmed by maximum resistance ratings. The hybrid shows excellent cold tolerance and maintains physiological functions during sudden temperature drops, making it suitable for early planting. Additionally, the plant demonstrates high tolerance to lodging and effective moisture release after physiological maturity of the grain. Optimal planting density depends on soil moisture levels: on well-watered areas, 70-85 thousand plants per hectare are recommended, while under insufficient moisture, 45-70 thousand/ha. The hybrid’s potential yield reaches 20 t/ha (200 c/ha), with actual yields typically ranging from 110 to 138 c/ha. KWS Lusitano performs particularly well on sandy soils and in the forest-steppe zone, making it a versatile choice for various agroclimatic zones.
