A high-yielding dent corn hybrid designed for stability and efficient grain processing.
Description
Field Experience with KWS Maurilio
When operating with KWS hybrids, the focus is always on predictability. KWS Maurilio is a robust single-cross hybrid that demands precision during the planting stage but rewards the producer with high grain quality. In our practical experience, it responds exceptionally well to density management based on the specific field conditions.
We adjust seeding density according to the moisture profile of the soil:
- 45,000–50,000 plants/ha for drier regions to minimize competition.
- 55,000–60,000 plants/ha for standard farming conditions.
- 70,000–75,000 plants/ha for high-potential, irrigated fields.
Harvesting and Maintenance
The dent-type grain structure is the key advantage of Maurilio. It ensures not only a high test weight but also consistent dry-down rates during the 140–160 day maturation period. From a mechanical perspective, the uniformity of this simple hybrid is a major benefit. It allows the combine operator to set the headers and threshing drum once and maintain efficiency throughout the entire harvest.
The stalks are structurally sound, which significantly reduces the risk of lodging. Even in late-season conditions, the crop stands well, allowing for high-speed harvesting without significant losses. Maintenance is straightforward, provided that the header is adjusted for the specific ear size to avoid mechanical damage to the grain. KWS Maurilio is a reliable performer that maximizes throughput and minimizes post-harvest drying costs.

Corn hybrids are classified by maturity groups and by the FAO number. All corn hybrids are distributed according to the FAO scale. Under Central European conditions, a difference of 10 FAO units between hybrids results in a 1-2 day difference in their maturity. The higher the FAO... |

Dent corn (Zea mays indentata) — Large, elongated, flat kernels. The endosperm is horny on the sides of the kernel, mealy in the center and at the top. A depression forms at the top of the kernel upon ripening. Dent corn is the most widely cultivated group among others. Plants ty... |
