Description
Reliable Performance: Field Experience with LG3258
When choosing a hybrid for large-scale production, predictability is the top priority. After years of working with the Limagrain lineup, LG3258 has proven to be a workhorse that handles various technological conditions while delivering consistent results. As a mid-to-late maturing hybrid with a vegetation period of 120–140 days, it has enough time to fully realize its yield potential.
Agronomic Strengths and Field Health
From an agronomist's perspective, the primary value of this hybrid lies in its stalk health and disease resistance. We frequently encounter Fusarium and stalk rot, but LG3258 shows high tolerance to these pathogens. Its resistance to common smut is particularly impressive, keeping ear losses minimal even in wet seasons. The flint-dent grain type serves as a perfect compromise: it is hard enough for secure storage while retaining excellent moisture-drydown properties during harvest.
Sowing Density and Use
- Versatility: This hybrid performs equally well for grain production and silage. If your operation involves livestock, its biomass quality ensures efficient silage fermentation.
- Planting Density: We typically use two strategies. To maximize grain yield, we keep the density at 60,000–65,000 plants/ha. If the goal is silage or high-moisture conditions, we increase it to 70,000–75,000 plants/ha.
Utilizing French genetics from Limagrain in our fields provides the peace of mind that comes with knowing what to expect come harvest time. It is not a high-maintenance crop; it simply does its job, consistently filling the bins without unexpected complications.

Dual-purpose hybrids: for silage and grain in all growing regions. These are "stay-green" type hybrids, meaning the plants remain green for a longer period. However, this does not affect the sugar, cellulose, and hemicellulose content, nor the degree of lignification of the plant... |
