Description
Begonia 'Fricolet' is a tall, upright cactus begonia reaching 90–110 cm in open ground and 60–80 cm in containers. The plant has sturdy stems that maintain their vertical position even after rain, making it wind-resistant and ideal for planting in flower beds, borders, or on balconies.
The flowers of 'Fricolet' are large, measuring 10–15 cm in diameter, with a striking red-and-white coloration. The petals have a tubular shape: they are pointed and rolled into tubes for half their length, with the tips transitioning to white, creating an effect of “rolled” petals. Blooming begins in July and continues until early October, during which the bush can produce 10–15 inflorescences per season.
The plant prefers sunny locations with a minimum of six hours of direct sunlight daily and well-drained soil – loamy or sandy. In open ground, 'Fricolet' does not survive the winter, so tubers must be dug up after the first frosts and stored in a cool, non-heated room until spring. When grown in pots, the plant is usually shorter than its height in the ground but retains its bright coloration and prolonged blooming, making it a popular choice for cut flowers: a bouquet of 'Fricolet' can enjoy freshness for up to two weeks due to the high vase life of its blooms.
