Engineering Architecture of the Vario Transmission

The core component driving the success of the Fendt Vario is its stepless hydrostatic-mechanical (ML) transmission. Unlike traditional gearboxes, this system splits power: one path flows through a planetary gear set, while the other goes through a hydraulic pump and motor. In practice, this eliminates power interruption and the need for shifting under load. The operator can seamlessly adjust speed from 0.02 to 60 km/h, maintaining optimal engine RPM to sustain torque regardless of field conditions.

TMS (Tractor Management System) Integration

The machine's intelligent brain synchronizes engine speed with transmission ratios. Once the operator sets the target speed, the electronics automatically select the lowest possible RPM for the current load. This directly impacts fuel efficiency: the system prevents fuel waste during operations with implements that do not require full engine output, keeping the motor within its most efficient operating range.

Hydraulics and Power Delivery

Fendt Vario tractors feature high-capacity Load Sensing pumps (up to 220 l/min) that deliver oil only on demand. A critical design feature is the independent hydraulic circuit, which prevents contaminants from implements from entering the main transmission oil supply. The electronically controlled rear hitch with depth regulation and weight-transfer function allows for precise ground contour following, which is essential for working with wide-span seeders and cultivators.
