Metalaxyl: Deep Systemic Control

As a phenylamide, metalaxyl acts systemically. Upon application, it is rapidly absorbed by the plant tissues and translocated acropetally. This ensures that even new growth, which develops after the spraying, remains protected. Metalaxyl functions by inhibiting the biosynthesis of nucleic acids within the pathogen's cells, effectively halting reproduction during the latent stage of diseases like late blight and downy mildew.

Mancozeb: The Surface Shield

In contrast to the systemic component, mancozeb acts as a contact fungicide. It forms a protective barrier on the leaf surface, inhibiting the enzymatic processes essential for fungal metabolism. By preventing spore germination before they can penetrate the host tissue, it acts as the first line of defense. The inclusion of amino acid derivatives enhances the stability and adherence of the spray film, improving overall coverage.
