Description
The Aristocrat gooseberry variety is a mid-late variety bred in 2006 by the breeders of the I.V. Michurin All-Russian Research Institute of Horticulture by crossing the Sirius and Plums varieties. The bushes of this variety are strongly growing, medium-spreading, with good growth energy. Branching and bush density are at a medium level, canes are thick, straight, and have a medium amount of thorns. Thorns are mainly located in the lower part of the canes; they are single, of medium length and thickness, light-colored, and perpendicular to the cane.
The gooseberry fruits of Aristocrat are distinguished by their high marketability and uniformity. They are oval-shaped, dark red in color, almost black at full ripeness, and covered with a waxy bloom. The average weight of the fruits is from 4 to 6 grams. The taste is sour-sweet, balanced, and very good, with an acidity index of about 4.8. The fruits are of universal purpose, suitable for fresh consumption, and serve as a source of vitamins and antioxidants, which give them the characteristic purple-red color.
The Aristocrat variety is distinguished by its high resistance to powdery mildew and other major diseases, as well as very high hardiness. The yield is stable and high, reaching from 3.1 to 3.8 kg per bush. Fruiting begins already in the first year after planting, which makes this variety attractive to gardeners seeking to obtain high-quality and abundant gooseberry crops.
