Description
The Svarog blackcurrant variety is a medium-ripening, high-yielding cultivar developed in Ukraine and introduced in 2011. The bushes are medium-height, dense, and moderately spreading, reaching up to 1.2 meters in height. The canes are strong, grow upright, with a small number of thorns, mostly single, sometimes double. The recommended planting spacing for seedlings is 1.2–1.5 meters, ensuring optimal growth and development conditions for the plant. The Svarog blackcurrant berries are large, weighing 5–7 grams under intensive agrotechnics, round in shape, bright red in color with a waxy coating and raised green veins that are visible through the translucent skin. The flesh is greenish-yellow, juicy, with a pleasant sweet-sour taste. The skin is elastic, of medium thickness, and tough, ensuring good fruit transportability and an attractive appearance. The variety is characterized by high cold resistance and resistance to powdery mildew, as well as moderate resistance to anthracnose. It adapts well to the entire territory of Ukraine, is not demanding in cultivation conditions, prefers sunny locations and fertile, loose soils. Thanks to these qualities, the Svarog blackcurrant provides a stable and abundant harvest annually, making it popular among both amateur gardeners and agribusinesses.
