Description
Blackcurrant variety Oksamit, also known as Velvet, is a high-yielding, large-fruited medium-ripening variety developed in Ukraine and well-adapted to local climatic conditions. Harvesting maturity occurs in the third decade of June or July, depending on growing conditions. Plants are vigorous, dense, semi-erect with straight shoots, covered with large thorns along the entire length of the branches. Leaves are dark green, medium-sized. It is recommended to plant seedlings at a distance of about one meter, as the bushes occupy considerable space.
Fruits of the Oksamit variety are large, oval-shaped, with an average weight of 4 to 6 grams. Their color is dark red, bright, with a slight waxy coating. The flesh is juicy, greenish, with a harmonious sour-sweet taste, which received high sensory evaluation. The skin is thin, elastic, and tough, without fuzz. Berries withstand long-distance transportation well, making this variety suitable for commercial cultivation and culinary use.
The Oksamit variety is characterized by early fruiting, beginning to bear fruit already in the second year after planting. It is not demanding in growing conditions, prefers sunny locations and fertile, loose soils with neutral or slightly acidic reaction. Blackcurrant is resistant to fungal diseases, frost, and drought, ensuring stable yields and long-term bush longevity. Average yield per bush ranges from 4.7 to 5.2 kg, making this variety attractive for gardeners and farmers.
