The Grinchel currant variety features a vigorous bush with straight, medium-thickness canes that are virtually hairless. Thorns are mostly located in the lower part of the canes; they are of medium length and thickness, weak, and occur in average quantities. The leaves of this variety are short, below average width, with a glossy surface. Inflorescences consist mainly of two flowers, with three-flowered ones being rare.
Grinchel berries are spherical, yellow in color with a slight waxy bloom, hairless, with pronounced veining and a short pedicel. The average berry weight is about 4.4 grams. The fruit taste is sweet-sour with a delicate aroma, making them universal for various usage methods. Berries contain 12.1% dry matter, 8.5% sugar, 2.9% acid, and 29.0 mg% of vitamin C. The tasting score for fresh berries reaches 4.6 points.
The Grinchel variety belongs to the medium maturity period and is characterized by medium yield, which is about 56 centners per hectare. It has relative winter hardiness and resistance to diseases and pests: anthracnose and septoria infection is about 1%, and pests are about 0.8%.
