Description
The 'Amber' hazelnut variety was developed at the Ukrainian Institute named after Simerenko and registered in the State Register of Ukraine. This tree has a round shape, reaching about 3.5 meters in height and 4.2 meters in crown diameter, and begins to bear fruit from the third year. The nuts are medium-sized, elongated-oval in shape with a broad, ridged edge, with a total weight of about 290 grams per hundred fruits. The kernel is white, hard, easily separates from the shell, and yields 51% of the total nut weight.
'Amber' is distinguished by high winter hardiness and resistance to pests and diseases, making it a reliable choice for cultivation in various climatic conditions. The variety is characterized by high productivity — on average, 20 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching 32.3 centners. The nuts contain 71.5% oil, 18.1% protein, 4.1–5.1% carbohydrates, and 11.2 mg% vitamin C, providing them with high nutritional value and excellent taste quality, confirmed by a tasting score of 8.5.
Moreover, 'Amber' serves as a universal pollinator for many Ukrainian selection varieties, which contributes to improved yield and fruit quality in the orchard. The plant prefers sunny locations and adapts well to cultivation conditions, making it attractive to gardeners seeking a stable and high-quality hazelnut harvest.
