The 'Anna' hippeastrum hybrid is a product of professional selection by the Russian Academy of Sciences (Subtropical Scientific Center). Developed with a focus on plant health, this variety possesses a built-in resistance to Stagonospora curtisii (red blotch disease). For the owner, this translates to significantly reduced maintenance—you spend less time on fungicide applications and worry less about the most common fungal threats to bulb health.

Growth and Maintenance Requirements

Managing the 'Anna' is straightforward, provided you account for its stature. The flower stalk reaches 70–80 cm, which requires a heavy, stable pot to ensure the plant remains upright when the 15–18 cm flowers bloom. With 2–3 large blooms per stem, the plant puts significant pressure on its root system, so proper soil drainage is essential.

• Placement: Position in bright, indirect light. Western or eastern windows are ideal to maximize performance while avoiding the leaf scorching that intense midday sun can cause.
• Watering Routine: Target the soil, not the bulb neck. Moistening the bulb directly is a common cause of rot, even in resilient varieties. Keep the soil moist but never waterlogged during the active growth phase.
• Long-term care: After the blooms fade, remove the stalk cleanly to direct energy back into the bulb. Allowing the plant to enter its natural dormancy period is the key to consistent flowering in the following season.
