SOLYANSKY 85

SOLYANSKY 85 – a perennial brome grass intended for hay and pasture use. The plant is characterized by a deep root system capable of penetrating the soil up to 2 meters, ensuring high drought resistance and allowing its use on plots with limited water supply. Stems reach a height of 60 to 110 cm (in some sources – 118–150 cm), leaves are thin, flat, gray-green, and without a waxy coating. The inflorescence is a loose panicle, repeatedly branched and completely awnless.

SOLYANSKY 85 is distinguished by high dry matter yield: in the central black soil region, the average yield is 71.6 ц/га, and the maximum – 175.6 ц/га. In the East Siberian and Buryat regions, indicators are at the level of 35–170 ц/га. Seeds have a lanceolate shape, yellow-brown color, and a mass of 3.1–4.0 g per 1000 seeds. The plant sprouts quickly at a temperature of 4–5 °C and withstands frosts, as well as is resistant to flooding.

The nutritional value of SOLYANSKY 85 is high: 100 kg of hay contains up to 60 feed units and about 6 kg of digestible protein. Green mass has similar nutritional value, which makes this crop indispensable for creating perennial pastures and hay production. A bush can grow for more than ten years without transplanting, and mowing is possible several times per season.

The culture was developed at the Krasnoyarsk NIIAS together with the Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry by mass selection from a hybrid population obtained from intervarietal crossing of the collection sample VIR x K 36087. This ensures stable yield and biological indicators, as well as high adaptability to various climatic conditions.
