Description
The naked oat variety SNIISKh 83 is a highly productive perennial grass intended for forage culture in steppe ecosystems. The plant is characterized by an upright and dense bush reaching a height of 140–175 cm, a thin round stem without pubescence, and a dark green hue. Bushiness is strong, ensuring stable development on various soils.
The vegetative period lasts from the beginning of regrowth to the first mowing – 55–60 days, and to full seed maturity – 100–110 days. The yield of dry matter reaches 10.0–11.0 t/ha, while the seed mass yield is 0.7–0.9 t/ha. In the Central region, the dry matter yield in 1993 was 109.7 c/ha, which exceeds the standard Morshansky 760 by 11.6 c/ha. The variety demonstrates high winter hardiness and drought resistance, as well as resistance to common diseases – ergot, rust, and helminthosporiosis.
Naked oat SNIISKh 83 was bred by subdividing a wild population followed by selection of a biotype based on open pollination. Root systems develop deeply: roots penetrate up to 200 cm by the second year of life, ensuring plant stability under unfavorable conditions. The variety is permitted for use in practically all regions of the country and in Kazakhstan, where it is successfully applied as a forage crop for livestock.
