Genetic architecture and morphology of the 'Kristall' cultivar

Developed by the FGBNU North Caucasian Federal Scientific Agrarian Center (SKFNAC), this cultivar is a specialized breeding product focused on stable decorative floriculture. The research conducted by breeders E. N. Seliverstova and G. T. Shevchenko aimed to achieve an optimal balance between vegetative mass and the plant's generative characteristics.

Key plant parameters

• Stem height: 60 cm. The habit of the bush is designed for the middle tier of a flower bed, ensuring resistance to lodging under wind loads without the need for additional support structures.
• Inflorescence diameter: 15 cm. The significant size of the flower requires precise irrigation management, as the petal surface area at this diameter creates a high transpiration load.
• Coloring: The purple hue is the result of breeding stabilization of specific anthocyanin pigments, which are resistant to photodegradation under direct sunlight.

Agronomic recommendations

The 'Kristall' cultivar demonstrates peak performance under intense sunlight. Its utility as a cut flower is due to the density of the perianth, which maintains the flower's commercial appeal after separation from the parent plant. It is important to note that color intensity is directly dependent on light flux; a deficiency in insolation may result in a loss of purple saturation.

To reach the target 15 cm flower diameter, it is recommended to follow a fertilization schedule with an emphasis on potassium during the budding phase. SKFNAC has equipped this cultivar with a high adaptive potential to the climatic conditions of regions with moderate to hot summers.
