Technical Profile of «Zhaivoronok» Flax

This fiber flax variety, developed by the Institute of Agriculture of Polissia (NAAS of Ukraine), is a specialized solution for farmers aiming for a dual-purpose yield: technical fiber and oilseed. The technical implementation of this variety focuses on optimizing the vegetation period and strengthening the crop's phytosanitary barrier.

Biological and Vegetative Parameters

The key feature of «Zhaivoronok» is its condensed maturation period, ranging from 75 to 90 days. For production cycles, this is a critical factor that allows avoiding peak August droughts, which often cause lodging and loss of stem quality. Early ripening ensures uniformity in fiber formation and oil accumulation in the seeds.

Phytopathological Resistance

The breeding of «Zhaivoronok» focuses on countering the most aggressive pathogens in flax production:

• Anthracnose: The variety shows high resistance to pathogens affecting both seedlings and mature plants, reducing the need for intensive fungicide applications.
• Fusarium Wilt: The selection ensures the integrity of the plant's vascular system, preventing Fusarium development, which is essential for preserving the commercial grade of the fiber and preventing crop thinning.
