The Brodskaya local species of alfalfa is a variable variety of Medicago sativa L. nothosubsp. varia, characterized by medium maturity and adapted to various climatic regions of Russia. The plant has medium or low height in spring, with a semi-upright or intermediate bush shape. Leaves are green with a central leaflet of medium length and width, and leaf coloration of moderate intensity. Flowers are predominantly blue-purple, with low or medium frequency of mixed and light shades. The stem is of medium length; at full flowering, the plant maintains medium height, which decreases to low or medium height after several cuttings. The variety is distinguished by high dry matter yield, which varies from 30.6 to 72.3 ц/га on average in different regions, corresponding to or exceeding regional standards. Maximum yield indicators reach 135.2 ц/га, which is significantly higher than standard values. Protein content in the plant is within 16.6-18.7%, which also exceeds or meets standards, ensuring high protein collection up to 6.7 ц/га. These indicators make the Brodskaya local variety promising for feed use, providing high-quality and nutritious raw materials for animal husbandry. Due to its variability and adaptability, the variety is successfully grown in various climatic zones, including the Volga-Vyatka, Middle Volga, Ural, Western Siberia, and Central Black Earth regions. The plant is resistant to multiple cuttings, maintaining productivity and forage mass quality.
