Description
Lucerne variety Elegia is a medium-maturing and tall plant developed by the Institute of Irrigation Agriculture of NAAN. This variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and the ability to regrow well in spring and after cutting, ensuring a stable yield. The root system is of the taproot-branched type with a well-developed main root, which contributes to efficient nutrient uptake and resistance to adverse conditions.
Elegia variety is characterized by high productivity in both seed and forage mass. Seed yield reaches 0.5–0.6 t/ha, and dry matter yield ranges from 11.0 to 16.0 t/ha. Forage production is distinguished by high protein content (19.8–20.2%) and significant carotene content in leaves (124.60 mg/kg) and stems (13.45 mg/kg), making this variety especially valuable for animal husbandry.
Lucerne Elegia is widely used in agriculture as a forage crop and a source of nitrogen for soil. Thanks to its high adaptability and disease resistance, this variety is successfully grown in northern and central regions of Ukraine. This makes it a reliable choice for farmers aiming to obtain high-quality and stable yields.
