The MTZ 920 is built upon a semi-frame chassis, a design philosophy that prioritizes durability and ease of field repair. At its core is the D-243 four-cylinder diesel engine. By utilizing direct injection without complex turbocharging, this power plant achieves a robust torque curve at low RPMs. This mechanical simplicity is a strategic advantage, as it reduces thermal stress and sensitivity to varying diesel fuel qualities commonly found in remote agricultural sectors.

Transmission and Drivetrain dynamics

The tractor features a 9-speed manual gearbox paired with a reduction gear, providing 18 forward and 4 reverse speeds. The synchronized range allows for smooth transitions between gears, which is essential for maintaining momentum during transport operations or headland turns. The portal-type front driving axle is designed with planetary-cylindrical final drives. This configuration provides a significant ground clearance (645 mm), which is vital for inter-row cultivation without damaging crops.

Hydraulics and Power Take-Off

Equipped with an NSh-32 gear pump, the split-unit hydraulic system supports a rear linkage capacity of up to 3200 kg. This allows for compatibility with a wide range of secondary tillage and seeding implements. The rear Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft operates at 540 and 1000 RPM, including a synchronous mode.
