Description
For growing Alpha onions, it is recommended to sow the sets as early as possible in spring, immediately after it is possible to go to the garden. The optimal planting depth is 3-5 cm, with a distance of 5-10 cm between plants and about 30 cm between rows. Harvest is conducted in late July to early August when the onion neck becomes soft and the plants begin to lean. At this stage, bulb growth ceases, and the upper scales acquire the characteristic color of the variety. Yield reaches 6-7 kg per square meter or 176-236 centners per hectare.
Alpha onions are highly resistant to diseases and suitable for long-term storage. After harvest, bulbs must be stored in a well-ventilated room at a temperature of 15-20 degrees Celsius. For long-term storage, dried and cleaned bulbs should be placed in a dry and dark place at a temperature of 1-3 degrees to prevent sprouting. Due to its characteristics and ease of cultivation, the Alpha variety is suitable for both novice gardeners and entrepreneurs interested in a stable and high-quality yield.
