Description

The Barito onion is one of the earliest long-day hybrids intended for cultivation at latitudes 50–60°. This variety is characterized by high yield, early maturity, and good storageability, making it an excellent choice for obtaining early and medium yields. Barito forms large, round bulbs with a thin neck and a dense, shiny yellow-bronze skin that ensures excellent storage and prevents sprouting during storage. The maturation period is approximately 105–110 days after sowing, allowing it to be used for open-field cultivation as well as for producing super-early crops via seedlings or onion sets.

The Barito variety is resistant to bolting, which promotes stable bulb formation and reduces crop losses. The plant develops rapidly, forming strong foliage and quality bulbs. The recommended sowing rate is about 0.9–1 million seeds per hectare. Thanks to its characteristics, Barito is suitable for fresh consumption as well as medium-term storage, making it a versatile solution for farmers and gardeners.

Barito can be cultivated not only in open ground but also in hydroponics, which expands its application possibilities. To obtain seedlings, seeds are sown in the second half of March, burying them 1.5–2 cm deep at a germination temperature of 18–22 °C. Seedlings are transplanted into the ground upon reaching 7–9 leaves and a height of 20–25 cm. This approach allows obtaining a quality and early onion crop with excellent taste and market qualities.
