Description

Bolero onion is a medium-maturing winter hybrid of bulb onion, type Reinseburger, developed by Czech breeders. Bulbs have a round shape, weight from 140 to 160 grams, and diameter of 7-8 cm. The outer sheath is golden-brown with a pleasant waxy coating, while the inner flesh is white, juicy, and has a characteristic aroma with a pleasant spiciness. The average neck thickness ensures ease of storage and transport. The vegetative period is approximately 123-128 days, allowing harvest at optimal times. Bolero is distinguished by high resistance to low temperatures and frosts, making it frost-resistant and reliable for cultivation in various climatic conditions. The variety is resistant to bolting and has excellent disease resistance, reducing the risk of yield losses. Onion tolerates high soil moisture well and does not lose germination, although planting on low-lying areas prone to spring flooding is not recommended. Recommended planting density — 10 cm between plants and 20 cm between rows; spring planting depth is 3-5 cm, and winter planting — 6-10 cm. Bolero is renowned for its excellent storability — bulbs retain their market and flavor qualities for up to 9-10 months when stored in dry and cool conditions. Due to its high transportability, this variety is suitable for both fresh market sales and long-term storage. During cultivation, watering is performed 1-2 times per week gradually decreasing, and watering is completely stopped 3-4 weeks before harvest, which improves quality and preservation of the yield.
