Despot

Despot onion — a late-ripening variety of bulb onion, suitable for cultivation in various soil-climate conditions, including all climate zones of our country. It has a vegetative period of about 120-130 days and is ideal for mechanized harvesting. The bulbs have a round-oval shape with shiny, bronze or brownish-red scales, dense and visually appealing. The average bulb weight ranges from 100 to 130 grams, reaching 140-160 grams under favorable conditions. The inner part of the onion is white, juicy, and has a strong, spicy flavor, making it popular both fresh and for long-term storage.

The variety is characterized by high yield — from 60 to 110 tons per hectare, making it profitable for commercial cultivation. The recommended seeding rate is 4-5 kg per hectare, which corresponds to approximately 1.0-1.1 million seeds. Despot onion prefers light, neutral soils and well-lit areas, does not tolerate shade or weed competition, which is important to consider in agronomy. It is resistant to diseases, reducing the risk of yield loss and improving product quality.

One of the key advantages of this variety is its long storage capability — up to 6-7 months under proper conditions, especially when humidity levels are controlled in storage. This allows for prolonged product availability without loss of quality. Despot onion has a pleasant semi-sharp flavor and juicy texture, making it versatile for various culinary uses and popular among consumers.
