Sonoma F1 onion is a mid-season short-day hybrid of bulb onion developed by the Dutch breeding company Bejo Zaden. The vegetative period is 115-120 days from emergence to harvest. The plant features a strong root system, providing high resistance to adverse weather conditions, including spring frosts and summer heat. The hybrid shows moderate resistance to basal rot, pink root rot, and fusarium, contributing to a stable and high-quality yield.

Sonoma onions have a round shape and golden-dark brown color with a strong, dry, high-quality skin. The average weight of one bulb ranges from 150 to 250 grams. The inner scales are white, thick, and crisp, giving the onion a mild, delicate flavor without bitterness. The dry matter content is approximately 7.7%, ensuring good marketability and flavor. The hybrid’s yield reaches 100 tons per hectare under optimal growing conditions.

Sonoma F1 onion is suitable for cultivation in various climatic regions and can be grown both as seedlings and direct sowing in open ground. Seeds do not require pre-treatment, as they have high protective properties. After harvest, the crop can be stored for up to 8 months without losing flavor or appearance. Due to these characteristics, Sonoma F1 onion is widely used for commercial purposes and culinary applications.
