Description
Uralsky 40 was developed in Russia by the Siberian All-Russian Research Institute of Agriculture and adapted for cultivation in cold regions, but it is suitable only for spring planting; winter planting is not recommended. The plant prefers fertile neutral soils, requires infrequent watering, weeding, and fertilizing, as well as disease prevention. For planting, it is recommended to maintain a distance of 25-30 cm between bulbs in a row and 30-40 cm between rows. Seed material preparation includes warming, disinfection, trimming the neck and root, and spraying with complex fertilizer.
The variety is characterized by good storability and long-term storage capabilities—under proper conditions (temperature 18-22°C, humidity 50-70%, dry and dark room), the onion retains its quality for up to 10-12 months. Harvesting occurs after the leaves turn yellow, followed by drying the bulbs. Uralsky 40 is widely used for fresh consumption, cooking various dishes, canning, and pickling, making it a versatile and in-demand shallot variety.
