Description
The "VIK 61" variety is a perennial loose-culm grass intended for hay and pasture cultivation as a monoculture or in mixtures. The stems are erect, reaching up to 1.5 m in height, with wide, long leaves and compressed panicles as inflorescences. The fruits have a membranous, three-angled shape and are gray in color. The variety is distinguished by high winter hardiness and satisfactory drought tolerance, allowing it to grow successfully even under conditions of limited irrigation.
Yield of dry matter reaches 8–10 t/ha, while seed yield is 400–500 kg/ha. The seeds have a purity of no less than 90% and a germination rate of at least 70%. In the first year of life, the urchin forms vegetative shoots with long leaves; in the second and subsequent years, both vegetative and generative shoots appear. Flowering begins in the second year – in June, and seed maturation is completed in early July.
The variety grows well on medium and heavy loamy soils, regenerates quickly, and responds well to fertilizers and irrigation. It is moderately resistant to chevron disease, making it a reliable choice for high-load pasture systems. Due to its characteristics, "VIK 61" is a popular solution for feed producers, ensuring a stable and quality yield of both dry matter and seeds.
