Description
Oda Pennisetum - an erect annual variety of Japanese proso millet, known for its high yield and drought resistance. Plants reach a height of 93 to 120 cm, and the stems are long, providing good bush structure. The leaves are elongated-lanceolate without a ligule, and the inflorescence has a conical-lanceolate shape and short length.
The grain of the Oda variety is broadly round, with grains weighing 3.5–3.9 g per 1000 pieces. Growing this variety achieves an average yield of dry matter of about 49 c/ha and seeds – 19.3 c/ha. Oda Pennisetum is characterized by early maturation, allowing for planning plantings in shorter seasons.
The variety is widely used as a fodder crop: the grain contains up to 15% protein and 7% fat, while green mass and hay provide about 60 feed units per 100 kg. Oda Pennisetum grows well in a warm climate but cannot withstand frost, so it is cultivated mainly in regions with a mild winter. Thanks to high yield and nutritional value of the grain, this variety is in demand among producers of feed for poultry and livestock.
