Description
Queen is a mid-ripening variety of pampa grass (Echinochloa frumentacea Link), intended for the production of green feed, hay, silage, and silage, as well as feed grain for birds. Plants reach a height of 162 cm, have a semi-erect bush with medium density. The stem is long, of medium thickness, leaves are lanceolate, broadly acute, inclined, and without a ligule, which ensures good light permeability and ease of processing.
The panicle of the variety is conical, inclined, of medium length and density; the neck is short. Glumes are light brown at maturity with moderate anthocyanin pigmentation, and the grain is ovoid-rounded, covered with grey floral envelopes without chaff. The mass of 1000 grains is 4.1 g, the crude protein content in absolutely dry matter is 12.8 %, in grain – 14.6 %. Sugar content in green mass is 8.5 %.
The vegetative period from germination to flowering is 57 days, to maturity is 89 days. Average yield: 25.1 c/ha of grain and 16.1 % dry matter. The variety is characterized by good drought resistance and is suitable for cultivation in central and black soil regions of the country.
