Description
The winter pea variety Focus is a mid-early grain variety intended for grain cultivation. It was bred by the P.P. Lukyanenko National Grain Center and included in the State Register for the North Caucasus region with a recommendation for cultivation in Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Adygea. The vegetation period ranges from 208 to 244 days, maturing approximately one week earlier than the Phaeton variety. Plants reach a height of 45 to 90 cm, which is significantly lower than the standard, while the mass of 1000 seeds varies from 203 to 250 grams. The seeds have a spherical shape, yellow color with a black hilum, and the protein content in the grain reaches 23-24%. The variety is characterized by high winter hardiness and lodging resistance, which exceeds the average level and surpasses standard indicators by 2 points. Focus also possesses high resistance to shattering and moderate resistance to diseases and pests, being particularly weakly affected by ascochitosis. The plants are leafless, with well-developed stipules in the shape of "rabbit ears" and low density of spotting. Flowers are white, up to two flowers form at the nodes, and pods have a slightly curved shape with a blunt apex. Yield of the variety in the region averages 16.1 centners per hectare, which is 3 centners higher than the standard Phaeton, while maximum yield indicators reached 35.3 centners per hectare. The sowing rate is 1.4 million viable seeds per hectare. Due to its agronomic characteristics and high production performance, the Focus variety is a reliable choice for grain production in the North Caucasus region.
