Description
Pea cultivar 'Fregat' is a medium-early plant with a vegetative period of 65 to 74 days. This cultivar was developed by the Federal Research Center of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and is characterized by high leafiness, average plant height of about 71 cm, and a large number of productive nodes. Inflorescences consist of two-flowered racemes, sometimes with three flowers, and the corolla is white. Pods of this cultivar have a weakly curved shape with a pointed tip, without a parchment layer, which prevents them from cracking and shedding seeds upon maturation. Seeds are round, yellow in color with a black hilum; the mass of 1000 seeds varies from 149 to 235 g depending on growing conditions. The 'Fregat' cultivar exhibits high resistance to lodging and shattering, ensuring crop preservation. It has moderate drought tolerance and medium resistance to leaf ascochitosis, but is susceptible to root rots. Thanks to the tight closing of pod valves and the absence of a parchment layer, seeds are reliably protected from mechanical damage and losses. Protein content in the grain is 21.5-22.7%, making this cultivar particularly valuable for fodder use due to its high level of digestible protein and sugars. 'Fregat' yield is stable and has high potential: average yields reach about 20 c/ha, while maximum yields can exceed 35 c/ha. The cultivar is recommended for cultivation in the Middle Volga region and is successfully used for grain production, as well as for hay and silage purposes. Sowing rate is 250-270 kg/ha, which allows optimal use of plant potential and production of high-quality fodder products.
