Shrek

The Shrek pea variety is a mid-season variety of the beard morphotype, created at the Scientific Research Institute of Agriculture of the Northern Zauralie. It was bred by individual selection from a hybrid F4 population of Kuzbass × Zavodoukovsky 1 and has been included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatsk, West Siberian, and East Siberian regions of Russia since 2016. The variety is distinguished by its resistance to lodging and drought, and it responds well to summer rainfall. It matures simultaneously with the Om 9 variety or 1-2 days later, which allows for effective harvest planning.

In terms of seed yield, the Shrek variety outperforms the control Om 9 variety by 0.58 t/ha, achieving an average yield of 3.43 t/ha in competitive variety trials from 2011 to 2015. The highest yield indicators were recorded in 2013 (4.50 t/ha) and in 2015 at the Yaransky Experimental Station of the Kirov region (5.58 t/ha). Additionally, the variety is characterized by a high dry matter content in the green mass, exceeding the standard by 12.4% at the pod-filling stage and by 17.0% at the harvest stage for grain silage. The gross protein collection is also significantly higher than that of Om 9, making the variety attractive for the production of feed and grain.

Shrek peas are recommended for cultivation in regions with a moderate climate, where they demonstrate high adaptability and yield stability. Their resistance to adverse conditions and high productivity make this variety a profitable choice for agricultural enterprises seeking to enhance the efficiency of grain and feed production.
