Field Performance of «Yavor» Peas

When selecting a pea variety for commercial grain, predictability is the key factor. Serbian breeding by IFVCNS (Novi Sad) is well-regarded for its adaptability, and «Yavor» is no exception. Over three seasons of cultivating this variety, it has proven to be reliable even under moisture stress, which is critical for our local climate.

Harvesting and Vegetative Cycle

With a 90–100 day growth cycle, it fits perfectly into the crop rotation. The plants reach an average height, which makes field operations straightforward. «Yavor» is resistant to lodging, which is a major advantage when using a header or pod-picker — you can proceed with direct harvesting without significant losses. The pods stay intact until threshing, so there is no rush to clear the field under difficult weather conditions.

Phytosanitary Reliability

Pea diseases are a common challenge, but «Yavor» handles them well. The variety shows solid resistance to Peronospora and Rhizoctonia root rot. Over the course of our observations, we haven't encountered critical outbreaks of Ascochyta, Septoria, or powdery mildew that would otherwise compromise yields. This level of natural defense allows for reducing fungicide applications, making the production more cost-effective.

Grain Economics

The 1000-seed weight ranges from 220 to 240 grams, creating a commercial-grade product that is highly valued by processors. With a protein content of 20–22%, «Yavor» is a stable commodity for both domestic sales and export. As for maintenance, the variety responds well to standard agricultural technologies and does not require specialized equipment for sowing, ensuring uniform emergence across the field.
