Description
The peach variety Slavutich is the result of selection by the National Botanical Garden named after N.N. Grits'ko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, obtained by crossing hybrid form No. 51 (Polesky + Golden Anniversary) and the variety Druzhba. The tree of this variety has medium growth vigor, forming a wide, inverted pyramidal, spreading crown. It enters fruiting on the 3rd-4th year, predominantly fruits on mixed branches and requires fruit thinning. Flowering occurs in medium time, and it is very abundant and uniform.
The fruits of the Slavutich variety are medium-sized, weighing 70 to 90 grams. The skin is thin but strong and elastic, with slight pubescence, easily separates from the flesh. The main color of the fruits is dark cream with a burgundy blush covering most of the surface. The stone is medium-sized, oval with a pointed apex, easily separates from the flesh. The flesh is yellow, tender, juicy and melting, with good flavor.
The variety ripens in mid-August under conditions of the Kyiv region. Slavutich peaches are primarily intended for fresh consumption, but also suitable for making compotes and jams. The variety is distinguished by increased winter hardiness of trees and fruit buds, relatively high resistance to powdery mildew, and very good overall vitality, making it reliable and promising for cultivation in temperate climates.
