Description
Early autumn variety selected by A. M. Lukashov, obtained by pollinating flowers of the 'Finland Yellow' variety with pollen from Ussuri pear. Second in importance among 'Lukashovs'. It is widely grown in the same regions of the Far East and beyond, but in smaller quantities. It differs from the 'Tema' variety by smaller fruits, better taste qualities, and longer storage life.
Medium-stature tree, compact, narrowly pyramidal in youth, broadly pyramidal in maturity, densely branched. Bark is grayish-brown on older and younger branches, dark brown on more recent shoots. In youth, it bears fruit primarily on fruiting spurs, in maturity on ringed and whip-like branches.
Branches of medium or thin thickness, straight, brown. Growth buds are rounded-conical, not pressed, without hairs. Leaves are small, egg-shaped with a blunt rounded base. Leaf blade slightly corrugated, finely serrated.
Fruits are small (average weight 57 g, maximum 74 g), and in heavy fruiting years, they become smaller, oblong-shaped without the characteristic pear 'neck'. Fruit skin is thick and rough. Color is uniform, yellow-green without blush, small numerous brown lenticels. Peduncle is long, fitting into a shallow narrow cup. Calyx is small, cup wide and open. Core is upper, sharply defined, seed chambers closed, seeds medium-sized, egg-shaped.
Flesh is white, fairly juicy, tart-sweet flavor with slight aroma, pleasant to taste. Flesh contains total sugars — 11.5%, titratable acids (converted to apple acid) — 1.39%, tannins — 0.6%, pectins — 0.3%.
Ripe in the first to second decade of September. Fruit attachment is strong even during monsoon rains.
Fruits keep for up to 25 days, up to two months in storage with refrigeration units. Intended for fresh consumption and for making compotes, puree, jam, and marmalade.
Self-sterile, best pollinators — Tema, Poly, and Palmyra.
High yield, begins fruiting on the third to fourth year after grafting, mass fruiting on the sixth to seventh year. At the Lukashov nursery, over 32 years, each tree produced 32 harvests totaling 1676 kg. In commercial plantings at the nursery, aged 25 to 36 years, over 12 years, average yield was 142 centners per hectare per year.
Advantages of the variety: high winter hardiness, resistance to scab, regular and high yields, good fruit attachment, does not drop during monsoon rains and windy conditions.
Disadvantages of the variety: small fruits of mediocre taste, short consumer shelf life.
Used as a winter-hardy base for developing new varieties on the Far East and beyond.
