Description
The 'Ural Dawn' plum variety is a medium-sized tree with a height ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 meters, featuring a spreading and sparse canopy with moderate leaf density. The tree is known for its exceptional winter hardiness, capable of enduring temperatures down to -37 degrees Celsius, making it particularly valuable for cultivation in regions with harsh winters. The tree blooms at average times, and fruiting begins in the 3rd to 4th year, typically in the second decade of July, allowing for a harvest at the end of July or the beginning of August.
The fruits of this variety are large, weighing between 25 to 30 grams, broadly round in shape, and dark red in color with a dense waxy bloom. The plum flesh is tender, juicy, and aromatic, with a pleasant sweet taste and a light aftertaste of fruity caramel. The pit is medium-sized, round, and easily separates from the flesh, which facilitates the processing of the harvest and makes the fruits convenient for consumption in fresh form and for culinary purposes.
The 'Ural Dawn' variety is self-sterile, so pollinators with overlapping bloom times are necessary for successful fruiting. The best pollinator is the 'Ural Red' variety, while others suitable include the Ussurian plum, Chinese plum, and hybrid apricot-plum hybrids. The tree is characterized by high resistance to diseases and pests, as well as low maintenance requirements. The yield ranges from 15 to 25 kilograms per tree. Fruits harvested at the stage of technical ripeness can be stored in a cool place for up to 2-3 weeks.
