Tsenkovskaya Sinyaya

The variety was obtained by A.M. Tveritinov and L.A. Sevastyanova at the Tatar Research Institute of Agriculture from open pollination of Volga Ternosliwa. Introduced into the State Register in 1988 for the Middle Volga region.

The tree is weak-growing with a medium-dense spherical crown. Leafing is moderate. Bark on the trunk is rough and brown; on main branches it is smooth and brownish. Shoots are thin, short, straight, occasionally slightly curved, dark brown, slightly hairy with small, light-gray, medium-dense stipules. Leaves are small, inversely egg-shaped, occasionally broadly inversely egg-shaped, green, smooth, matte, convex, occasionally slightly concave along the main vein, hairless, with a strongly downward-curving apex, wedge-shaped, occasionally broadly wedge-shaped base, doubly serrated edges, on short, pigmented, medium-thick petioles with lanceolate, medium-sized, mid-season falling stipules, glands are small, sparse, brown-yellow, round, located both on petioles and leaf base. Flowers are small, white, with widely open petals. Stigma is positioned above the anthers.

Fruits are small (13.5 g), broadly oval, black-purple, with strong waxy coating, rounded apex, small basal depression, weak ventral seam, hairless. Skin is medium-thick, easily removed. Flesh is green, juicy, medium-firm, fine-grained fibrous, slightly acidic-sweet, acceptable flavor. Peduncle is short and thin. Detachment is dry. Stone is broadly oval, small, light brownish, with blunt apex and base, finely pitted and bumpy surface, easily separates from flesh.

Fruits ripen at the end of August — beginning of September, contain 13.07% dry matter, 1.63% organic acids, 6.37% sugars, suitable for fresh consumption and processing (jam, preserves).

Flowering begins in the first or second decade of May. Enters fruiting on the 3rd–4th year after budding.

The variety is medium-yielding, moderately winter-hardy, moderately affected by clasterosporiosis, rust, and slime scale, self-fertile, well-rooted by green cuttings in artificial mist, moderately by budding,

Advantages of the variety: self-fertility, weak growth, early fruiting, good rooting of green cuttings.

Disadvantages of the variety: small, acceptable-tasting fruits.
