Description
The potato variety Caliber is a mid-early table variety with oval tubers partially covered with red skin. Tubers weigh from 102 to 224 grams and contain about 14.9% starch, ensuring good taste. Plants are of medium height with semi-erect stems and medium-sized green leaves. The flower is large with anthocyanic coloring on the inner side, ranging from weak to moderate intensity. Caliber is distinguished by high marketability — about 76%, and excellent storability — 95%, making it convenient for storage and sale.
The variety is characterized by high yield, reaching 214 to 370 centners per hectare, which is 34-68 centners higher than standard varieties Lady Clare and Irbit. Maximum yield can reach 390 centners per hectare, significantly exceeding the performance of standard varieties in Nizhny Novgorod region. Caliber is resistant to potato late blight (pathotype I), as well as to crinkly mosaic and leaf curl, but is susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode.
To grow large-sized potatoes of the Caliber variety, it is important to follow agronomic requirements, including proper site selection, tuber preparation, and plant feeding. Caliber is suitable for trade and food service due to its optimal tuber size, which meets the grading requirements of GOST 7176-2017. This size allows efficient distribution of the crop for various purposes, ensuring high quality and ease of use.
