Cavalier

The potato variety Cavaler is a medium-maturing table variety developed at YUUNIISK and included in the state register for the Ural region. The plant is tall, semi-upright with large dark-green leaves. Tubers are oval-shaped with small eyes, red smooth skin, and yellow flesh that does not darken when boiled or raw. The average weight of marketable tubers ranges from 89 to 130 grams, with up to 12 tubers per plant. Starch content varies from 15.0 to 17.7%, providing moderate cookability and excellent taste qualities, rated 4.7–5.0 on a five-point scale. Culinary type is suitable for soups and mashed potatoes.

The Cavaler variety is characterized by high market yield, ranging from 129 to 369 centners per hectare, with maximum yields reaching up to 443 centners per hectare. Marketable tuber content ranges from 77–88%, and storability reaches 95%, ensuring good product preservation during storage. The variety shows high resistance to potato scab (including the Dalem strain), golden potato cyst nematode (Rо 1 strain), as well as leaf curl and mosaic diseases. Moderate resistance is noted against late blight on foliage, susceptibility on tubers, and alternaria. Additionally, the variety is lightly affected by common scab and rhizoctonia.

Cavaler potato is intended for intensive cultivation in the Ural region and is suitable for wide culinary use due to its taste and versatility. High yield and resistance to major diseases make this variety attractive to farmers and gardeners seeking quality and stable harvests.
